How to edit a PDF
- Choose Edit PDF free and use Attach PDF for Editing, or Attach PDF inside the editor. Open Full Screen Editor if you need more space to work on the page.
- Choose a tool from the editor rail, such as Text, Highlight, Image or a shape. Add the object on the page, then position and size it around the existing content.
- Adjust available style controls, including color, font size or opacity. Use Undo to reverse an unwanted action, and move between page thumbnails to inspect your additions throughout the document.
- Choose Download PDF. Open the saved copy outside the editor and check every edited page. Keep your original because the exported document uses rendered, image-based pages.
Useful edits for a working copy
Highlight a sentence in a project brief, add a note beside a diagram, or point to a floor-plan detail with an arrow. You can place text on a flat application without interactive fields, or add an image to instructions. These tasks add information without reconstructing the original layout.
Keep annotations clear. Position notes without covering relevant evidence, and use a readable size at normal zoom. Check highlight contrast in the download so the underlying words remain legible.
Added objects are not rewritten paragraphs
An overlay adds a visual element; it does not change source wording, adjust line breaks or move later content to another page. For extensive revisions, edit the source file and export a new PDF. Use Fill PDF Forms for existing interactive fields instead of placing text over them.
Export and editing limitations
The editor download renders pages into an image-based PDF. Original searchable text, links and interactive fields are not retained as their original interactive objects. Keep the source when those features matter. This tool does not perform OCR, convert a PDF into an editable Word document, or provide certificate-backed digital signing. Whiteout is a visual editing tool, not a documented secure-redaction workflow; use Redact PDF for sensitive areas and independently review its exported result before sharing. Do not assume annotations preserve an existing digital signature's validity.
Browser-based editing and privacy
The document is processed in the browser, not uploaded to a FlowPDF server. Editing is free with no signup, and the source is not overwritten. The privacy policy covers analytics and external resources separately. Handle downloaded annotations containing personal information carefully.
