How to unlock a password-protected PDF
- Choose Attach PDF and select the protected document you are authorized to modify.
- Enter Current Password. Use the owner password if the PDF's permissions require it.
- Choose Unlock PDF, download the result and check that the copy opens without a password.
Authorization matters
Password protection can enforce privacy, contractual or organizational controls. Only remove protection from a file you own or are authorized to modify. FlowPDF does not attempt password cracking or recovery.
Handle the unlocked copy carefully
The downloaded copy no longer requires the same password, so store or share it according to the document’s sensitivity. Keep the original protected version until the result has been checked.
Use the password that grants the required access
A PDF can have both an opening password and a separate owner password. Knowing the opening password may allow you to view the pages without granting permission to remove restrictions. If the tool requests an owner password, obtain it from the authorized document owner rather than repeatedly trying the viewing password. A file without password protection does not need this operation.
Unlocking produces an unencrypted copy, not a repaired or translated document. Unsupported or damaged files can still fail even with a valid password. Keep the protected source until you have checked the page count, orientation and important fields in the download. Consider where the unlocked copy will be stored: anyone with access to that file may be able to read its contents without entering the previous password.
