How to split a PDF
- Choose Split PDF free, then use Attach PDF. Look through the page previews to identify the last sheet in each section you want to separate.
- Mark a boundary with the scissors control after a page. On mobile, use Cut after on a page card or the split-point number control. Add further boundaries if you need more parts.
- Use Split all when every page should become a separate file. To start again, use Clear Lines on desktop or Reset in the mobile workspace, then recheck your boundaries.
- Choose Split PDF and download the generated parts using the result controls. Open each output and check its beginning and ending pages so no section is cut in the wrong place.
Practical uses for splitting a document
A combined invoice PDF can become separate customer files. A workshop workbook can become session packs, and a report can become chapters for different reviewers. Splitting works well when the source has clear sections and each recipient needs a self-contained part rather than the entire collection.
Check what makes each section understandable alone. Instructions or a glossary may belong with a part even when they sit elsewhere. If several files need the same introduction, prepare those packets deliberately: a boundary does not automatically supply missing context.
Find the boundary using content
PDF page positions start with the first physical sheet. A printed chapter number can begin later, after a cover or contents list, so do not rely solely on the number printed in a footer. For a section spanning physical pages 4 through 8, the relevant boundary is after page 8. Check adjacent previews to avoid separating a table from its continuation or leaving a signature page in the wrong packet.
What splitting does not change
This tool separates pages into new files; it does not rewrite their content, add OCR, compress images or automatically repair printed numbering. It is not a guarantee that each output has no confidential information. Complex bookmarks, forms and other document-level relationships may be affected when pages are copied, and existing digital signatures should not be assumed valid in the new parts. For one copy containing scattered selected pages, use Extract PDF Pages instead of a sequence of section boundaries.
Local splitting and your original
Your PDF is processed in the browser, not uploaded to a FlowPDF server. There is no signup or payment requirement. Output parts are separate downloads; your source remains unchanged. Large documents may take longer to split. The privacy policy explains website analytics and third-party resources.
